Bernadette Burroughs
RN · Palliative Care Consultant · End-of-Life Doula
Bernadette Burroughs is a Registered Nurse, Palliative Care Consultant, and End-of-Life Doula with years of experience walking alongside patients and families through some of life's most profound moments.
As a nurse, Bernadette saw firsthand what medicine could — and could not — offer at the end of life. She witnessed families left without guidance, patients without presence, and a system not built to hold the full humanity of dying. That gap called her.
She founded Walk With Thee Training Academy to equip a new generation of end-of-life doulas with the clinical knowledge, emotional tools, and spiritual grounding to fill that gap — with compassion, competence, and deep humanity.
Bernadette is a NEDA Listed End-of-Life Doula Educator. The Walk With Thee curriculum is fully aligned with NEDA Core Competencies and prepares graduates for the optional NEDA Proficiency Badge.
"We believe you are one of them — the rare person who can sit in the quiet without flinching, and hold what others cannot hold."
"You are not there to evaluate how they lived. You are there to honor how they die."
End-of-life work is not a career choice. It is a calling. The person called to this work is rare — they can sit in the quiet of a dying room without flinching, hold a grieving family with steady hands and a steady spirit.
At Walk With Thee, every lesson, every practice, every interaction is threaded with one non-negotiable standard: humility and non-judgment. We do not know people's stories. We have no right to judge anyone we care for, nor their family, nor their friends.
You will sit with people whose lives look nothing like yours. Whose choices you may not understand. Whose beliefs may differ from everything you hold. And you will honor them anyway. That is the Walk With Thee standard.
Real, unhurried, unconditional presence is the most powerful thing one human being can offer another at the end of life. We train for that.
Non-judgment is not a lesson you complete and move past. It is the thread that runs through every lesson — and every room you will ever enter.
You don't walk alone. Walk With Thee graduates enter an ongoing community of doulas, mentors, and fellow travelers in this sacred work.
